A Hit! IMF President Wore WENSLI Qipao in the “Belt and Road” Event

On May 14th, Chinese President Xi Jinping held a banquet at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing to welcome all the guests attending the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation. President Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan greeted the IMF President Lagarde and her husband. In the picture, Lagarde was wearing a traditional Chinese Qipao, matching the silk image in “Belt and Road” Initiative. What’s more, this customized Qipao is made by WENSLI, the native-born Hangzhou silk enterprise.

The design of the Qipao is inspired by the totem of the flowers and birds in traditional Chinese style with auspicious meaning. On the 6A level elegant blue silk velvet fabric, the traditional Chinese auspicious symbols of peony, magpie, plum blossom, lily and are perfectly presented, showing an elegant and noble dress charm. For the exterior design, the modified Chinese Qipao integrates the reserved manner and fashion, and adopts three quarter sleeve, small round neck, rear slits and other Western-style solid cutting.

To make the overall effect more three-dimensional, the Qipao is made with fine Seed Embroidery[L1]  with complex beading process, highlighting the color contrast and granular sensation of the fabric. According to reports, Seed embroidery is one of the traditional Chinese embroidery stitches, which requires the embroidery masters to coil the lines into granulous small circles, with each stitch, there will form a “seed” (granule), and when the embroidered surface spreads out, it will show the effect of subtle changes and protrusions. Therefore, the work process of “Seed Embroidery” is much more complex than the average embroidery, and it takes a lot sssmore time to finish a work made with Seed Embroidery.

This is not the first time that Lagarde has chosen to wear WENSLI to attend important occasions. At the opening ceremony of the B20 Hangzhou Summit on September 3, 2016, Lagarde wore an elegant blue and green scarf. This able woman from France and known as the “Financial CHANEL” also chose the “Hangzhou element” – a scarf named “silk tenderness” produced by WENSLI. The scarf is as green as the water of the West Lake. On the scarf is the pattern of the “three pools mirroring the moon”, one of the Ten Views of the West Lake. The scarf integrates the LOGO lines of G20, one side is the gorgeous crepe satin plain, and the other side is the silk gauze looking like the fog and mist, conveying the unique delicate tender passion of the silk town.

In the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, we can also see the silk elements. WENSLI has made the silk mats with oriental appeal for the banquet of the forum. The mats are designed according to the texture and style of the tableware of “Splendid China” series. The patterns are traditional Chinese patterns of Po-phase flowers with blooming flowers, clear and bright patterns, symbolizing auspiciousness, completeness and preciousness. On the edge of the flowers, the additional shapes differ. The floral scrolls with different sizes and thickness symbolize unity, opening-up and prosperity.

It is known that the front side of the mats adopts traditional embroidery and edge embedding technologies, the main difficulty of which lies in the choice of embroidery colors. The thermal transfer printing used on opposite side requires concentration, failing of which may lead to deformation of the circular logo, and there should be no impurities left on the white area. Due to the complicated process of the mats, the yield is only about 50%. Despite this, WENSLI is committed to present the product process and details to the extreme.

As a symbol of the ancient China on its way towards globalization, silk is an indispensable element. WENSLI reflects its thinking of the Belt and Road Initiative in the product designs, seizes the opportunity of this forum, and released a variety of “Belt and Road” themed souvenirs to show its own consideration for the silk culture and national strategies.
